How to Trim Audio

Click the box or drag a file onto it — MP3, WAV, OGG, and M4A work in most browsers. The tool shows the file's name, length, sample rate, and channels, draws its waveform so you can spot quiet gaps and loud peaks, and includes a player for listening. Enter a start time and an end time in seconds, using decimals for precision, and click Trim & Download. Whatever sits between those two times is kept and everything outside is removed. The end time starts at 10 seconds, or at the end of the file if it's shorter, so remember to adjust it for longer tracks. If the end isn't after the start, the tool reminds you.

Tips and the Output Format

Play the track and note the times where the part you want begins and ends, then round a little outward to avoid clipping a word or a note. The trimmed audio is saved as an uncompressed WAV file named after your original with -cut added, such as interview-cut.wav. WAV keeps full quality and works on nearly every device and editor, but it is larger than an MP3 — about 10.6 MB a minute for CD-quality stereo — so convert it afterwards if you need a smaller file. Very long recordings can be slow because the whole file is decoded in your browser first.
