Internet Speed Test — Check Your Download and Upload Speed

Measure your connection in one click. The test reports your ping, download speed, and upload speed in megabits per second, so you can see whether you're getting what you pay for.

How to Test Your Internet Speed

Click Start test and wait a few seconds. The tool measures ping first, then download speed, then upload speed, telling you which stage it's on. Your download speed appears on the large gauge as soon as it's measured, and all three results are listed beneath it: ping in milliseconds, and download and upload in Mbps. Divide Mbps by 8 to get megabytes per second — 100 Mbps is about 12.5 MB/s. If something goes wrong, you'll see a message asking you to check your connection and try again.

What the Test Does and How to Read It

The test runs in your browser and uses Cloudflare's public speed test network to move the test data. It measures ping as the median of four quick requests, downloads a 20 MB file for the download figure, and uploads a 5 MB block for the upload figure — so each run uses roughly 25 MB of data, which is worth remembering on a metered or mobile connection. Results are an estimate. They vary with network conditions, other devices and apps using your connection, VPNs, and how busy your browser is, and a single-connection test like this can under-report very fast connections. For the most useful reading, close other downloads and streaming, connect with a cable if you can, and run the test a few times.

Ping here is the time for a small web request to reach the test server and return, so it will be a little higher than a classic ping measurement.

Good Uses for This Tool

Checking that your plan delivers the speed you pay for, troubleshooting slow video calls or buffering, comparing Wi-Fi with a wired connection, and testing before and after changing your router or provider.

What Happens to My Data?

No personal information is entered or stored. To run the test, your browser sends and receives test data with Cloudflare's speed test servers, so Cloudflare sees your connection as it would for any web request.
