How to Calculate Your GPA

The calculator opens with three sample courses. Type each course name, choose the letter grade — from A+ down to F, including plus and minus grades — and enter the credits or credit hours, which are 3 by default and can go in half steps. Click Add course for more rows, or the × to remove one. Your GPA appears on the 4.0 scale, rounded to two decimal places.

How the GPA Is Worked Out

Each grade is worth grade points: A+ and A are 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, B− is 2.7, C+ is 2.3, C is 2.0, C− is 1.7, D+ is 1.3, D is 1.0, D− is 0.7, and F is 0. Each course's points are multiplied by its credits, and the total is divided by the total credits, so a 4-credit course counts more than a 1-credit one. For example, an A in a 3-credit course, a B+ in a 4-credit course, and an A− in a 3-credit course give (4.0×3 + 3.3×4 + 3.7×3) ÷ 10 = 3.63.

Schools differ, so check your own scale. This calculator is unweighted — it doesn't add extra points for honors or AP classes — and it counts A+ as 4.0, while some schools give an A+ more or don't use plus and minus grades at all. To include earlier terms, add the courses from every term you want counted. Your entries aren't saved, so note the result before you leave the page.
