How to Generate an Avatar

Type a name, username, or email into the box and choose a style: Identicon, a symmetrical geometric pattern; Initials, the first letters of the name on a coloured background; or Rings, a set of concentric coloured circles. Then pick a size — 128, 256, or 512 pixels — and a square or circle shape. Click Download PNG to save it, or hit Random seed to try a fresh one.

Why the Same Input Gives the Same Avatar

The avatar is generated from your text, so the same input always produces exactly the same image (capital letters don't matter). That makes it ideal as a default profile picture: every person gets a consistent, recognisable avatar without uploading anything. The colours are chosen from the text as well, so different names look different. For Initials, the tool uses the letters A to Z and digits from the text you enter. With a circle shape the corners of the PNG are transparent, so it sits neatly on any background.
