How to Unlock a PDF

Upload the protected PDF, enter its current password, and click "Unlock PDF." The file is decrypted and a new, password-free copy downloads immediately. The original file isn't changed — you get a second copy without the lock on it.

This Isn't a Password-Cracking Tool

You need to already know the PDF's password for this to work. There's no way around that, and that's intentional: recovering or bypassing a password you don't know on a document you don't have rights to is exactly the kind of thing this tool doesn't do. If you've genuinely forgotten the password to your own file, your best option is usually whoever originally set it, or the software that created the PDF in the first place.

Why You Might Want This

Password-protected PDFs make sense when you're sending something sensitive, but they get inconvenient fast once the document only needs to live on your own machine — every open, every print, every "select all" asks for the password again. Unlocking your own copy after the file has reached its destination safely is a normal, everyday use case: tax returns you've already filed, statements you've already reviewed, contracts you've already signed.
