Online Metronome — Free, No Signup

Practice with a steady, accurate beat right in your browser. Set the tempo, the time signature, and the sound, then start playing — nothing to install, and no account needed.

How to Use the Metronome

Set the tempo with the number field, the slider, or the -5 / -1 / +1 / +5 buttons, or tap along to a song using "Tap tempo." Choose how many beats are in a bar, tap a beat dot to mark it as accented, normal, or muted, and pick a subdivision if you want eighth notes, triplets, or sixteenths between the main beats. Click "Start" to begin.

Why the Timing Stays Accurate

Browser timers like setInterval can drift slightly under load, which is enough to throw off a metronome over a long practice session. This one schedules every tick using the Web Audio clock instead, which is built for exactly this kind of precise, sample-accurate timing — so the beat stays locked in even if the tab is busy doing something else.

Choosing a Tempo

If you don't know the target tempo for a piece, start slower than feels natural and build up. Classical tempo names give a rough guide: Andante sits around 76-108 BPM, Allegro around 120-156, and Presto above 168. For most practice, working a passage cleanly at a slower speed first, then gradually increasing it, gets better results than starting at full speed.
