Loan Calculator — Monthly Payments and Total Interest

See what a loan will really cost. Enter the amount, the interest rate, and the term, and get the monthly payment, the total you'll repay, and how much of that is interest — with an optional month-by-month schedule.

How to Use the Loan Calculator

Enter the loan amount, the annual interest rate as a percentage, and the term in years, and pick a currency. The monthly payment, total repaid, total interest, and number of payments update as you type. The starting example — 25,000 at 7.5% over 5 years — comes to a monthly payment of about 501, a total repaid of about 30,057, and around 5,057 in interest across 60 payments. Click Show amortization schedule to see every month: the payment, how much of it goes to principal and interest, and the balance still owed. The schedule covers up to 600 months, and amounts are shown rounded to whole numbers.

How the Payment Is Worked Out

The calculator assumes a fixed interest rate and equal monthly payments, with interest charged monthly on the remaining balance. Early payments are mostly interest — in the example, the first payment is about 156 interest and 345 principal — and the balance drops faster as the loan ages. The term makes a big difference: the same loan over 3 years costs about 778 a month and 2,996 in interest, while over 7 years it costs about 383 a month but 7,210 in interest. A shorter term means higher payments and less interest overall, and a longer term does the reverse. A 0% loan is simply divided into equal payments.

Real loans often include fees, insurance, or a variable rate, so treat the result as an estimate rather than a quote, and check the lender's own figures before you commit.
