How to Cut an Audio File

Click the box to choose a file, or drag and drop one onto it. MP3, WAV, OGG, and M4A files work in most browsers. The tool shows the file name, its length, sample rate, and number of channels, draws its waveform, and gives you a player so you can listen and find the moments you want. Enter the start and end times in seconds — decimals are fine — then click Cut & Download. The end time starts at 10 seconds, or at the end of the file if it's shorter. If the end time isn't after the start time, the tool asks you to fix it, and if your browser can't read the file it says so.

About the Output File

The clip is saved as a WAV file named after your original, such as song-cut.wav. WAV is uncompressed, so there's no loss in quality and it works almost everywhere, but the files are bigger than MP3s: CD-quality stereo takes about 10.6 MB per minute. That's no problem for a short clip. If you need an MP3 of the result, convert the WAV in an audio editor afterwards. Because your browser decodes the whole file before cutting, very long recordings can take a while and use a lot of memory.
