See where a domain points and how its email is set up. Enter a domain name and get its live DNS records — addresses, mail servers, name servers, and text records — in one table.
How to Look Up DNS Records
Type a domain such as example.com — if you paste a full web address, the https:// and anything after the domain are removed for you — choose a record type, and click Lookup. You can pick ALL to see everything the server returns, or narrow the search to A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, or SOA. The results appear in a table showing each record's type, host, value, and TTL, along with a count of how many were found. If the name can't be resolved, or has no records of the type you asked for, the tool says so.
What the Record Types Mean
An A record maps a name to an IPv4 address and an AAAA record to an IPv6 address. MX records list the servers that receive the domain's email, each with a priority number — the lowest number is tried first. TXT records hold text and are commonly used for email authentication such as SPF and for verifying ownership of a domain. NS records name the servers that hold the domain's DNS, a CNAME makes one name an alias of another, and the SOA record describes the zone; for SOA the tool shows the primary name server. The TTL is how many seconds other resolvers may keep a record before asking again.
Results come from our server's own DNS resolver, so they can be slightly behind if you've just changed something, and a change can take up to its old TTL to reach everyone. If you've just updated a record, check again after a little while before concluding it didn't work.
Good Uses for This Tool
Confirming that a domain points to the right server after a move, checking MX and TXT records when email isn't arriving, troubleshooting a website that won't load, and seeing which name servers a domain uses.
What Happens to the Domain You Enter?
Unlike most tools on this site, this one runs on our server: the domain you enter is sent there and looked up through the server's DNS resolver, since a browser can't run these queries itself. Only valid domain names are accepted.
